There has been a flurry of interest in a rock club on Facebook in Oliver in recent days. I have about 20 names, including a geologist who have shown interest. I have asked that people expressing interest on Facebook send an e-mail to the club, so we can contact them as soon as we are ready to get things going.

October 1st on the Tulameen and Similkameen
Five at the Campground, and four day trippers. Best dressed - Luis and Selena with their matching camo waders. Thanks to Morley for some gold panning lessons - he took home a few flakes.
Club members Sam, Luis, Selena, Morley and Susan welcomed new members Jennifer, Marianne, Jodie, and one guest.
Finds of the day - first agate - Jennifer - not rounded at all, so a freshly travelled one.
Luis found 3 agates.
Against one of the supports of the foot bridge. |
This is a beauty - but big. Jodie packed it all the way back to the car. |

Sunday September 11th - Outing in Osoyoos
Fear not Luis, we did not find your secret agate spot - we found lots of colourful rock, but no agate.
Get well soon Luis and Selena.
The lake was warm, one member went for a swim. A very low turnout - Duane, Katherine and Sam welcomed new member Jennifer.
Jennifer is enthusiastic, has a geology background, and good online researching skills for field trips.
The door/attendance prize draws were awarded to Jennifer and Katherine. These trays are part of a donation to the club. There are more trays for future events.

future field trips, and recruiting members interested in participating as a

Tailgate and Future of the Club Discussion
It was a nice day at Pine Park in Keremeos Sunday - many members increased their collection with sale tables from Morley, the Club, and a great selection of spectacular product by Rob and Eileen.
The consensus of the group was go keep the group going with a focus on field trips, and meetings coinciding with fun activities. Only one club member put his name forward to be a director. A group of the tired regulars agreed to help organize some upcoming events, and reach out to prospective new members.
Some members entered the river after the gathering.
Info will be coming on a proposed agate in Osoyoos Lake gathering Sept 11th, and a possible camping/day trip in the Princeton area at the end of September.

Tick Repellent
Last year I read that spraying one's boots with Listerine was a good tick repellent. Today I read that Rosemary is good for Ticks, and basil for mosquitos. Next outing in tick country just might have Rosemary twigs taped around my ankles!
