Dear rockhound, Please note that field trips hosted by the Fraser Valley Rock & Gem Club and Abbotsford Rock & Gem Club – which have been open to all BCLS members and promoted on the BCLS Facebook page – will now require that all participants show a valid BCLS membership card when registering at the meet up location. As always, guests are welcome on field trips provided they are sponsored by a participant with a valid BCLS membership card. Shuswap Rock Club Tailgate Sale

Hello,

My name is Florence and I am the treasurer of the Shuswap Rock Club, in Sorrento, BC. 

Our club is going to be hosting our second annual tailgate sale on Saturday, May 27, 2023.

We will be having various members selling their rock crafts, their rocks & minerals, and some used equipment. Any of your club members would be welcome to be a vendor to sell their rock related items.     We will also have our popular Spin & Win game, where everyone wins a prize.

 

We are inviting vendors, private or commercial to attend this sale. It is open to all BC Rock Club Members.  This sale will be conducted similar to previous zone tailgate sales held at Swan Lake in Vernon BC.  

 

This sale will be located at:

 

Centenoka Mall, West Parking Lot, 

Across the street from The Home Building Centre

151  5^th St SW, Salmon Arm, BC

May 27, 2032.   9 am - 4 pm.

 

This is a much better location than last year, only a block off the Trans Canada Hwy in Salmon Arm.

 

-The qualifications to participate as a vendor are that you must be a  current paid up member (2023) of a BC Rock Club. 

Bring your membership card or BCLS card to show proof. 

-The product you are selling must be rock related: ie finished work, slabs, rough rock, lapidary   equipment(working or not).

- The cost to rent a space for the day is $20.00. Bring your own tables.

 

There could be up to 15 spaces available with four already taken so you need to reserve a space soon. If you want to be a vendor you will need to provide your own tables and a tent (if you want one). Cheque or e-transfer to hold your space.

 

This is a social event, an opportunity to renew old acquaintances and make new friends, so we welcome you to come out and enjoy yourselves.

Welcome New Members

The meeting in Oliver last night was well attended, with several new members joining. Four people stepped up for Director positions to help move the club forward. Jerome Albo, Morley Brook, Donna Carpenter and new member Bob Ayres.

There is one more director position to be filled. If you are willing to step up, please contact one of the above members, or southokanaganrockhounds@gmail.com . Several long term club leaders have offered to help with mentoring or specific events.

Many existing club members were conspicuously absent. Maybe that is what happens when the agenda mentions getting people to step up for directorship.

Address: 58615 Lougheed hwy. in Hope

Date: April 16th

Time: 9am and departing at 910am sharp

Details: approx 10k drive on a unmaintained forest service road, vehicle needed is pick up, suv, compact car as long as it has ground clearance due to some rough patches in the road.

Tools needed: geo pick, small sledge hammer, chisel and buckets

**If you don't have any tools you are still welcome**

Bring: Water, snacks, A hat, clothes for the weather and a full tank of gas.

The established Rockhound Club is in need of new volunteers to form a board of directors to lead the club in to the future. For new people who have expressed an interested in joining a club, information is attached to fill you in on what the club has done in the past.

A directorship need not be an onerous position.

• Plan some meetings and field trips

• Plan the best use and loan program for club rock tumblers

• Maintain relationship and correspondence with the umbrella organization (BC Lapidary Society) which hosts events and provides some basic liability insurance

Past club leaders are willing to help out in a mentorship role.
