Cam Bacon - from BCLS Website
Cameron (Cam) James Bacon
March 12, 1955 - November 28, 2015
Cam Bacon, also known as Gem Show Chair for the BC Lapidary Society and a long time member of the Abbotsford Rock & Gem Club passed away on November 28, 2015.
He loved life and enjoyed it through rock field trips, exploration, trips to Arizona, the occasional casino outing and taking the lead each year at Gem Show.
Cam was always cheerful, willing to help and knowledgeable.
He believed in what he did whether that was recruiting volunteers for Gem Show, giving back through coaching soccer or being a Wagon Master of various rock field trips.
Cam leaves a legacy of living life, sharing his rock explorations through his Gem Trails of BC books and the children he inspired in soccer.
Cam Bacon will be dearly missed.
The family's wish is that in lieu of flowers please make a donation to the BC Lapidary Scholarship fund or to your local soccer club.
Memorial details will be posted at a later date.

Spring Wire Wrapping Workshop
Jerome looking for numbers:
I am hoping to see if there is sufficient interest in having a wire
wrapping workshop with Linda Zepik in the Spring. Cost approx $35-40, one
day in Summerland, likely 3-4 hours.
You supply the rock to wrap and Linda will supply the rest of the material. If interest is there, I will
find out what equipment you may need. 6 to 8 people only. Let me know before Christmas party if you can and then I will set date, time, and place and get the final list and collect prepayment.

October 14th Field Trip - Marron Valley
Thanks Michael Ryan for the photos.
Club Outing October 14, 2015 Marron Valley/Mt. Laidlaw
12 members , 2 dogs and 1 visitor attended
Thanks to our Wagon Master's memory and Duane's help clearing the road we found our way to the path that led us up to the top of Mt. Laidlaw. This is quite a climb but well worth it. The members found seam agate and white common opal.
At the bottom of the mountain members found seam agate and agate nodules.
It was a long day (10:00 to 5:00) but we all had a great time

On assignment...........
I have been exploring Mineral Titles Online on behalf of the club, to see what is involved in getting a claim. So far, I have gone as far as setting up my online account, and preparing the application for individual free miner certificate. The fee for me is $25, for those over 65 years, it is free.
I haven't spent much time on it lately, but will update after I have spent more time on it.

LOCATION CHANGE - Field Trip September 13th
With the dry forest conditions, and exceptionally low river levels, the September 13th Club Field Trip has been changed to the Similkameen River.
Meeting place: Junction of Keremeos Bypass Road and Highway 3, West of Keremeos. 9:30am Gerry's Fruit Stand parking area.
"Gerry's Fruit Stand" is directly across the Highway from the Bypass Road, and should have enough parking for us to gather. At the meeting, we talked about Sanderson's Fruit Stand - my mistake- Sanderson's is one west of the bypass. I should have said Gerry's Fruit Stand.
9:30 am meet - Wagon Master Dennis will lead us from there.

Devastating Rock Creek Fire
The most recent update I have indicated that the wildfire stopped short of Jerome and Sandra's place at Westbridge, where we had planned to be this weekend. Highway 33 is still closed. At one point there was a structure protection crew staged by Jerome and Sandra's place.
Highway 3 opened last night, with a 50km speed limit for the 5km through the fire zone. Ground and aerial assessments are under way this morning, with a plan to inform evacuees of their losses, then a public meeting at 4:00pm at the Midway evacuation centre.
Update: 30 homes lost, plus 15 other structures.

Nahatlatch Valley, Summer Camp
Seven club members made the trip through the Fraser Canyon for BCLS Summer Camp near Boston Bar. The sunset August 2nd was colourful with the smoke from the Cougar Creek fire to the north west of our camp.
Heavy smoke from the Wood Lake fire near Harrison came up the canyon Monday afternoon, prompting one asthmatic member to leave early.
Field trips included Lightning Ridge and Sacum Creek FSR for agate, a bush whacking trip for amazonite, and a walk along an active rail line for soapstone. The warm weather also prompted some to venture to bars in the Fraser River.
Hoping for more photos from other participants.
